“I suppose you have come to tell me that it isn’t too late.”
“Hardly, Severus.” Lupin’s eyes took in the cell around them. “You can see for yourself that the hour is very late indeed.”
“I misjudged you, Lupin. I supposed you had come to forgive me.”
“I would not presume to offer what I do not myself possess.”
Snape looked away.
“We are each the debtor of the other,” continued Lupin. “If all is owed, then nothing is owed.”
“And that is what you would leave me with. Nothing.”
Lupin nodded. “It’s more than you brought with you.”
